Bengal Cats

Useful Information

About The Bengal Breed

We strive to achieve the The International Cat Association Bengal Breed standard. The goal of our Bengal breeding program is to create a beautifully striking cat with the loving, dependable temperament of the domestic cat. A Bengal cat should be athletic, alert, and will have a friendly, curious nature. Your Bengal cat will be into everything! The Bengal cat is a confident cat with strength, agility, balance, grace, and lots of energy! The Bengal cat is a medium to large cat, of muscular and solid build.

A Bengal cat should have a wide nose with prominent whisker pads, and large oval, almost round eyes in a slightly small head. This will enhance the wild appearance of the Bengal cat. There should be a very slight, to nearly straight, concave (nose) profile, with relatively short ears that are wider on the base, with rounded tips.  The coat should have a soft and silky feel and be short and dense. The coat may be glittered or not. We prefer a glittered coat! The tail should be thick, low-set, and a medium length.

Health Testing

We have committed to responsible health testing as an important part of breeding Bengals

All of our Bengals cats are health tested with Wisdom Panel for the following Bengal genetic diseases
PRA-B (inhherited eye disease)
PKD (polycystic kidney disease)
PKdef (pyruvate kinase deficiency affecting blood cells)
HCM Screening is done every 12-18 months. Whilst we cannot guarantee none of our cats will never develop HCM, if a Bengal is going to develop HCM, then it will become apparent after the age of 4. We choose to make sure that we only have cats that are HCM screened clear whilst in our program and for any cats we have bought into our programme we ensure that we know the HCM history of the parents and grand parents.

We are happy to discuss our health testing with serious enquiries

Do you have kittens for sale for showing?

Yes! However it all depends on the kitten. You can never get the perfect kitten/cat!
We always evaluate our kittens before deciding if they are for pet or for showing. We cannot guarantee a kitten will do well at showing, however as the kitten will carry the name Hobs House, we will only allow the best of the litters to be shown.

Yes you can!

Why do Bengals make good pets?

Bengal cats have surged in popularity over the past decade—and for good reason. With their striking, wild appearance and energetic personalities, Bengals offer a unique pet ownership experience that blends the beauty of the exotic with the companionship of a domestic cat. But beyond their looks, there are several compelling reasons why Bengals make excellent pets for the right kind of owner.

One of the most immediately noticeable traits of a Bengal cat is its appearance. Their coats resemble those of wild leopards, featuring bold spots, rosettes, and marbled patterns. This gives them a distinctive, almost untamed aesthetic that sets them apart from typical house cats. Despite their wild look, Bengals are fully domesticated and bred specifically for companionship, making them both visually stunning and safe to keep in a home environment.

Bengals are also known for their intelligence. They are highly curious animals that enjoy exploring their surroundings, solving puzzles, and even learning tricks. Many Bengal owners report that their cats can open doors, retrieve toys, and respond to commands—behaviors more commonly associated with dogs. This intelligence makes them engaging pets, especially for people who enjoy interacting and actively playing with their animals.

Another reason Bengals make great pets is their playful and energetic nature. Unlike some more sedentary cat breeds, Bengals thrive on activity. They love climbing, jumping, and chasing, which means they can be a great match for households that are lively and interactive. Providing them with toys, climbing structures, and opportunities for play helps keep them mentally and physically stimulated.

Bengals are also known for forming strong bonds with their owners. They tend to be affectionate without being overly clingy, often following their humans around the house and wanting to be involved in daily activities. This balance of independence and attachment makes them ideal for people who want companionship without constant demands for attention.

Interestingly, many Bengals are fascinated by water. While most cats avoid it, Bengals may enjoy playing in sinks, splashing in water bowls, or even joining their owners in the shower. This quirky trait adds to their charm and can make everyday life with them more entertaining.

However, it’s important to note that Bengals are not the perfect pet for everyone. Their high energy levels and need for stimulation mean they require more attention and engagement than the average cat. Without enough activity, they can become bored and potentially destructive. Prospective owners should be prepared to invest time in play and enrichment.

In conclusion, Bengal cats make excellent pets for individuals or families who are ready for an active, intelligent, and visually stunning companion. Their unique combination of beauty, brains, and personality ensures that life with a Bengal is never dull. With the right environment and care, they can be loyal, entertaining, and deeply rewarding pets.

How do I choose a reputable Bengal breeder in the UK?

Look for breeders who provide health testing, allow you to see where kittens are raised, and are transparent about their breeding cats and practices.

Do Bengal cats require special care

Bengals are active and benefit from enrichment, climbing spaces, and regular interaction, but they do not require unusual care beyond a stimulating environment.
